WWDC Predictions

This time it is almost too easy. Apple has a lot of stuff going on these days ,almost too much and in a stunning turn have given a lot of information out as well, but not everything so here is my list of Apple predictions:

1. Lots of Leopard details. Basically they were supposed to launch it this month and my feeling is that they are very close to done with it. This will take up most of Job's keynote.

2. iPhone details like 3rd Party development for it. I do not think Jobs will spend as much time on this as other things. We've already seen a lot of the iPhone. In fact the four 30 second commercials that have been playing recently, sum up its capabilities very well. However to keep the excitement going he will say 3rd parties can develop on it like they can with the iPod. He's been coy about it to keep the hype up and to prevent people from being REALLY interested in the specs.

3. New iLife. The only app that has received a major face lift in the iLife series is iTunes (duh!) the rest have been waiting around to be better. That being said a lot of the complaints from the earlier versions have all gone away and now are very reliable and fast. I think the only other issue with them now is that they feel a little bloated to me. But I don't think Apple is overly concerned about it.

4. This will be my out on a limb one. Apple will release a professional web publishing app. Right now Apple is missing two fundamental pro-apps; a pro web publishing app nor a pro image editing app. Why the web publishing first? Well they already have iWeb and it seems like the next logical step is to create a step up from that. iPhoto has Aperture, iMovie has Final Cut, iDVD has DVD Studio Pro, GarageBand has Logic, etc. but there is not a pro version of iWeb and I think that it will take advantage of the Ruby stuff coming in Leopard.

5. My final prediction is that there is a new Logic coming. Lets face it many of the other developers in this field have given significant updates to their products almost two times over and Logic is still sitting around waiting for a significant increase. Not to say that it is old or becoming outdated but each passing year the competition gets more and more stiff. Live is starting to look like a real competitor to Logic. Especially since they keep developing their own plugs, and ProTools is finally taking their lower end market seriously. Logic is starting to look a little overpriced and needs some help badly. Who knows we might even see the Asteroid that was supposed to premiere a real long time back.

So there ya have it. My top five predictions of the WWDC. After the event I'll come back and see how I did.
